Scarborough is a community in Toronto located in the eastern part of the city. Originally a small collection of rural villages and farms, the area became a Township of Scarborough in the mid-1800s and later a city in 1983, and subsequently was amalgamated into the city of Toronto in 1998.
Scarborough itself has maintained it’s unique identity as a community, with no shortage of things to do and places to see. The Scarborough Town Centre is a large mall offering hundreds of stores, services and restaurants—where a whole day could easily be spent shopping and dining. The Toronto Zoo is also a popular destination for locals and visitors to the area.
Scarborough is a primarily urban area, but many parks and green spaces like Bluffers Park, Rouge National Urban Park, and Port Union Waterfront Park are a natural escape from the hustle and bustle of city life. One of the most incredible natural features of the area are the Scarborough Bluffs stretching about 15 kilometres along the Lake Ontario Shore. The Bluffs are a natural formation escarpment with sedimentary deposits that are over 12,000 years old and formed by natural erosion from the lake. This has resulted in breathtaking views along the trails and beaches of the Bluffs.
Scarborough is one of the Toronto’s most developing areas, with more affordable home prices than in many of Toronto’s other neighborhoods, making it a great place to live in.
